That bracket in the middle is ugly. I would not want to look at that everyday. It would depress me.

21.5" is a bit small for my taste but this is a really nice deal (especially as non refurbs).

I can't say much for this HP Line but if they are anything like the any of the 8 HP displays I own they are good quality displays.

.rev - 294.unique.woots / 529.total.items - woot is where the crap is.

You can push the two monitors closer together and you wouldn't see it. I'm sure that was just to show the bracket with the monitors.

Or you could put some handy dandy post-it notes there.

I really hate that all monitors are now 16:9. It's getting harder and harder to find a 16:10 monitor...

do these monitors have built in displaylink chip/capability? aka are they usb monitors?

For users who aren't focused on gaming, the benefits of an IPS panel over the more common TN panels used in cheap monitors are significant. Colors don't shift as you move off-axis, and the display just looks a lot better.

I have an earlier-generation HP monitor with an IPS panel and it's been a joy to use; it was about twice the price of cheapy TN-panel monitors when I bought it, and I'm glad I paid the extra money. If these newer HP models are as good, $140 apiece is a steal: you're getting superior IPS panels at a TN price. The space-saving stand and 3-year warranty are icing on the cake.

I've been 'dual' at work for the past year (It's now standard practice here, every work setup includes 2 monitors + 1 laptop) where I keep linked spreadsheets spread out over 2 screens, but more common, keep Excel up on 1 screen and Outlook/IM/etc on the other - sometimes its work on one screen and Hulu + Woot-offs up on the other (Ssshhh...)

I could NEVER, NEVER go back to a single monitor

Well F' you, Woot - it sold out while I was typing this. Now I'm depressed and need to go home and crawl back into bed

In my config, this will be 1 on DVI, and the other on HDMI->DisplayPort.

In for one set.

zerobeer wrote:My PC has only 1 DVI port. Can I connect the second monitor to the VGA port to support both monitors? Also, is it possible to get a DVI splitter to support both monitors?

Respectfully disagree. As long as it is a dual link DVI connector, you can split it to two seperate single links and have two seperate images.

Running this setup right now.

This is exactly what I'm looking for, but I was concerned about not being LED. It took just long enough for the community to convince me that it was better to have IPS than LED, that they sold out. Dangit.

Except the accell, even though able to drive 3 monitors, will not support the maximum resolutions available as it caps out at 1280x1024 per monitor.

Computer video connectors are quite ridiculous at this point IMO and if you add television it's even worse.

Composite, S-Video, component, VGA, DVI-A, DVI-D, DVI-I, HDMI, DP, and don't forget good old coax.

Always thought Displayport, coming on the heels of the HDMI introduction, was totally unnecessary.

I have had dual monitors for years at home as well. I finally got dual monitors at work early last year when I changed roles to more of a programming job. Computer programmers (and a lot of IT in general) is another job that really needs two monitors. Outlook, research tools, and/or remote control sessions on 2nd monitor and our programming software on the primary monitor. I just wish I had gone for this one since I'd like to have my work monitors on a stand like this and get a bit of desk space back.

You probably have a video card with a DMS-59 connector, not an actual dual-link DVI connector. They look very similar to DVI connectors, but actually provide two single-link signals through a splitter cable.

Dual-link DVI refers to the bandwidth, and can't be split into two logical displays.

pukeboy wrote:Always thought Displayport, coming on the heels of the HDMI introduction, was totally unnecessary.

Well, think again. HDMI is not exactly powerful enough to be one connector to rule them all.

"HDMI has rules for how to implement and use the technology. Business and enterprise customers may not want to implement all of the consumer electronics features that are required in HDMI products. In contrast, DisplayPort is the display equivalent of Ethernet....anyone can implement it in any type of application. A VESA compliance program ensures interoperability for products featuring the 'DisplayPort Certified' logo.

"DisplayPort supports higher performance as a standard feature-every 6-foot cable supports 10.8 Gbps. With HDMI, high performance is optional and comes at a significant cost premium. DisplayPort has better support for projectors and enables cool ultra-thin monitors. It supports native fiber optic cable and offers latching connectors, features that are missing from HDMI. Down the road, DisplayPort will allow multi-function monitors with a single cable delivering display, audio, and USB connectivity. It will also support multiple monitors on a single connector."

http://en.community.dell.com/dell-blogs/direct2dell/b/direct2dell/archive/2008/02/19/46464.aspx

Other articles can be found that also show the superiority of the performance-oriented, general-purpose DisplayPort over the largely entertainment-oriented HDMI spec.

But I guess if you mostly use your gear to watch movies and surf the web, HDMI might be enough...

I just received my monitors and stand today. They came in a big dishwasher sized box with the two HP and one Ergotron box inside; tracking said shipping weight was 50lb.

The monitors are awesome (mind you I am coming from a TN panel....) and the stand is pretty solid. The only beef I have with the stand is that the angle between the panels is pretty shallow -- I'm used to narrow desks so I like a steeper angle.
I'm really happy with this though, especially considering the price I paid was pretty much list for /one/ zr22w. Thanks woot!!!

Specs:
HP Envy17-3070NR
ATI Radeon 7690M
2x HP zr22w - each connected by DisplayPort

Couldn't you bend one of the arms to get the better angle? That's what I plan on doing. Stuff is still sitting in my car right now.

I don't think I could actually. The long horizontal member (that the brackets attached to the monitors slide onto) is made of pretty thick gauge steel and has a profile stamped in it to make it more bend resistant. You'll see when you assemble the stand.

(And besides, I don't want to bend anything because this is brand new and yeah.)
