PCMAG gave it 3 1/2 stars... but customers only give it 1 1/2... I'm not impressed. They got a bad rap for not working all that well and breaking easily.

The "refurbished" part (and the fact that they're selling MANY of them with this title) definitely speaks volumes and gives merit to that 1 1/2 stars. I think I'll pass.

Also edited to include amazon reviews.. mixed review but most positive are from those barely getting, using & reviewing within the first weeks or so.

A link with that might just get you a quality post.

I got this refurbished too a long time ago on Woot. It's still working perfectly though I just use it as a regular scanner now.

Neat Receipts sells their refurbished ones for $99.95, so this one is better.

Since it looks like the March woot also for $69.99 got its comments wiped out for when it sold on sellout (along with my comment), I'll give you August 23, 2010 woot for $79.99 (it was $84.99 when I bought it on an earlier woot):
http://www.woot.com/forums/viewpost.aspx?postid=4109089
and be real quick on comment:
Works well, small receipts might need guiding by right edge.
If the propietary format bothers you, save to pdf is an option.
tip from last woot: scan in color might pick up faint receipts beter.
It feels fairly sturdy. No problems so far.
The new software (I haven't tried it yet) convinced more people to buy it.
It's pretty light.
I like the propietary software, because it helps sort the reciepts into categories pretty well.
Someone will discuss a more expensive scanner (I don't remember, I think Japanese) that may be comparable (better quality but not better in everything). Maybe they'll post again.
Happy with this regardless.
Sorry, gotta go.

(12:19 AM, today) CowboyDann doesn't like reading so he posts a video review.

Yeesh ThunderThighs! I Do too like reading! You're going to make everyone think I'm a total plebeian.

Take some time to read The FAQ

Or take a minute to read The Neat Works Support (PC) or Mac Manuals

As always, uploaded to google docs for easy viewing.
Couldn't find anything on the scanner itself. Must be pretty plug and play.

Sorry, I did find my comment in a more recent sellout sale: $69.99

http://sellout.woot.com/forums/viewpost.aspx?postid=5038495

whatsamattaU wrote:Finally, something I can comment on based on experience. Need a little bit of care putting small receipts in. Most receipts scan well except faint ones--software may have trouble reading the price, date, company, etc. Software not the fastest, don't expect 10 second scans. Organization with software helps a lot, just think of categories in advance. I haven't tried the newest software--supposedly a lot better, and I haven't tried scanning to PDF (option if you're worried about proprietary software). I wouldn't try photos, based on previous comments (others can find previous woot). Scanner is light but feels decently made. I have to go back to work, but I like what I have so far--one of my better woot purchases, just need time to scan rest. Have not tried business cards, but see no reason why it wouldn't go ok. Bye.

Sorry, really late now. bye.

Got this scanner, new, with software from Woot! 2 years ago. Works great and I have dragged it around the globe as my standard packout. Just completed a new home purchase from another Country thanks to the scanner. I can't speak for "refurb" as that means nothing, but my new one has been a workhorse!

How many .woots will there be in a year? 20?

Does this work without a computer, or does it have to be connected? Otherwise, I don't see how this would be more convenient than my standard "stuff all receipts in an envelope" procedure.

Can the software work with any scanner? Or just with their brand?

That question would be better on polls.woot.com.

I paid full price for one of these and couldn't get it to work. No way to get support and no response from the company. Good Luck..

This is not a tech item. This is home.woot at best. Maybe we need a trash.woot too.

This is PC only. You can purchase a Mac software license from the company separately. I'm trying to find out what that price would be.

And now I have: The mac software license price is $29.95

I've had mine for 2.5 years (bought it right here for the same price) and I'm so glad I did. I don't use the accounting parts of the software, just the PDF-creating feature. It takes decent copies, both in grayscale and color, though it's not anything near photo quality.

I took mine to China and saved maybe 10 pounds from my luggage by digitizing papers and throwing away the originals. It starts getting a bit cranky if you use it for too long, but it takes a few hundred scans in a row to get there.

Right now my scanner operates as well as it did when I first bought it, and doesn't show signs of degrading soon. In short, I recommend it for anyone who wants to digitize a few dozen documents at a time.

I bought a refurb NeatReceipt scanner 2+ years ago from woot. the software was super easy to install, and has worked perfectly for me since day one. if you travel alot and need to scan reciepts or work products, this thing is a huge timesaver. don't fear the refurb, mine still looks like new even after using it for years. As for quality, it takes better scans of faint recipets than the giant office scanner my company provides in our office.

The video from J&R posted above by CowboyDann does not show the scanner actually scanning. For those who may be interested how fast the device scans, here are three videos from Youtube showing what appears to be the same device. (Yes, I know two of the videos show the version packaged for Mac users; I assume but don't know that it's the same hardware as the PC version.)

Works great for a spy. Quick and neat for when I am digitizing those top secret documents on the go.

I have TWO, the older model and this current model.

With the latest FREE upgrade software to 5.x you should be VERY happy. You can also use it in any scanner app (like Picasa) as regular color scanner.

Evernote on the PC side... scan as picture into a directory, and set Evernote to process all pix in that directory.
