Here is the Processor Benchmark chart High Mid Range CPUs - Updated 29th of July 2012

This is not a powerhouse gaming computer, but this is a good value for what you get. If you need a machine, maybe for the parents, maybe for the home office, that can handle email, web-browsing, light flash-style games, and moderate photo editing, this is a good deal. Bonus points for having dual monitor support with the integrated graphics, if you want to use it with twin monitors on your desk. No need to upgrade the video card unless you want to play high-end games.

Decent for an HTPC? I want a computer for home theater. Guess i'd pretty much need hdmi though. or is there an easy way around that?

If you need a PC for using the Internet, data storage, spreadsheets, etc. this is great. I got the same one here for $50 more a few months ago.

I have had good results with HP tech support, as well. Also, for a home office, HP has a multifunction machine that copies, scans and faxes wirelessly or wired, INCLUDING RECEIVING FAXES DIRECTLY INTO THE COMPUTER, for $300. Say goodbye to toner and paper. Also can print you the news or soduko a to wake up to in the morning.

As someone who was HP tech support for 5 years - I'm glad you had a good experience! Not all of their agents are decent, but some of them are jewels that manage to shine even through the red tape.

I'd say wait for a better system from Woot they have refurb HPs often and for proabably around 50 bucks more sometime soon you'll get a much stronger computer.

Anyone know how this would fare as a MAME machine? My arcade cabinet is still sitting here with an old Pentium 4 in it...

There is an hdmi to dvi conversion chord. Just google you can find them for under 5$. so from a picture consideration no loss, the only consideration is sound when using dvi to hdmi converter

Personally, I'd wait till Black Friday to buy any piece of electronics at this point in time. Unless you absolutely have to have a computer.

What would you consider "high end" games? My son plays some online games, like Minecraft (very low graphics quality), but mostly uses YouTube and stuff like that on the PC. Do you think this would be a good computer for that? Any limitations you can think of? Thanks!!!

This would be just fine for what you are listing.
This will work well for internet use, Youtube & videos, MS Office, Minecraft / older games(released say from 3+ yrs ago as a very crude ballpark example)... and for current "casual" games.

Those games with high quality graphics that look almost like what you would see in movies from a few years ago with would be considered high-end games.

If a person wanted to play the high-end games and has a friend who has put together or repaired pc's in the past, this pc could be modified to handle those games. It would require inserting a new video card($110-160 for a nice budget card) in one of the slots inside & replacing the power supply with maybe a 550-600 watt capable one(approx $50-70)

or as someone else said earlier, if you wait there should be other offers here in the near future for $50-70 more that will be a step higher than this model.

Apparently they were discussing politics, not fishing. Happens all the time on lakes, every 4 years.

Im looking for a computer I can put all my movies onto as well as play games (mainly ones I can download off steam). This one work, or wait for better? I have a 42 inch, smart TV that I want to hook it up to.

This is fine for a basic office machine. It's nice to finally see an integrated DVI video output on a base model computer. I'm disappointed to see only 4 USB ports on the back, however - and only USB 2, at that.

Main difference between refurb and new is the manufacturer warranty - 90 days with the refurb, a year with a new one. That said, refurbs generally have had parts replaced once already that came bad from the factory - in the case of a desktop, they are very much like new. Up to you really if you feel like gambling on the warranty.

You can pick up a decent Vid card with HDMI output (with sound) for $20 to $40. I have two HTPC's, one with a 4350 and the other with a 6350 ATI/AMD, both were obtained for about $30 each.

what is a desk top?

Mame doesn't require a whole lot of horsepower, but I did notice a bump in performance moving from a P4 to a dual core system. It may have had something to do with the Video card as well.

This will crossfire with a 6450 for a little graphical oomph. Even this measly PSU should handle it.

I'd be wary and think twice of getting HP's Desktops, new or otherwise.

My County Healthcare workplace unit I work for, the IT folks had just replaced all old but reliable workstation Optiplex XP Pro Dell's for Windoze 7 HP's...mind you these were brand spanking new HP's installed around 4/12.

In two months, several keyboards and corded laser mice were replaced although these desktops terminals inside health provider rooms were barely used daily. And then there were 3 or so desktops that were replapced outright and deemed "factory defective", to be returned well under the warranty period by the IT folks. I was witness to all as these were replaced. Funny, they reinstalled good 'ol NOS Dell keyboards and old school ball type corded mouse for the brand new HP peripherals that went kaput!!

I won't be surprised that them "factory defective" HP's would end up as one of these "refurbs" (note ALL HP's sold at Woot are refurbs ever since, if I'm not mistaken), to be resold here for us at techWoot!

My experiance has been the oposite of yours. I work for a world bank and we have used several HP models, DC5800, 6000 8000 and 8200. The last 3 models came with HP own HDMI connectores. We have had a couple failed out of the box like CD roms bot nothing major and I am talking at least 400 users.

I also have HP at home, I just replaced my m1180n tonight as it finally will not stay running. To tell you how long it has been running I bought it as a demo model off the floor from CompUSA...

Lastly, you are right that refurbished could mean parts replaced. They also mean PCs that were returned because of some other techical issue. For example, in NYC when there are conventions at the Javits Center HP provides internet cafes where visitor and vendors can access the internet and their emails or what have you. When the convention is over they pull the PC back. They can't sell them as new because they have been used for 3 - 5 days so they slap a refurbished sticker on them and sell them for a discount.

Check my account, I have been wooting here since 2004 and I have not, repeat I have not had to return anything I bought here because it failed after purchase.

In closing if you need an all round good PC for middle of the road to higher end office use, this one will work great.... If I did not already have a replace for my Media center PC I would have bought 2 of these, one for me the other to replace my wife's dell.

My poor desktop was dead on arrival. I am working with HP to get it replaced, but they said my 90 warranty expired in April, over 3 months before I bought the computer! My first woot experience has not been a good one. Spent over 2 hours on the phone with tech support today. Have to call back in 48 hours when my warranty is validated from the invoice purchase date. :-(
