Well, how do you fare compared to the Zeitgeist? Chat up your fellow wooters and let us know how lame this poll was or what obvious choices we missed. For example: Was this poll a) STUPID, b) DUMB, c) POINTLESS or d) ALL OF THE ABOVE?

We have beautiful used book stores (and music) out here in happy land.

I've bought some relativ-cheapo tablets for the kids to play on, artcetera-

-but not me, no. I don't like ephemeral belongings. I have a library and the real deal to backup every song on my fancy musicpood.

it's one of those things that when you have let disappear, you'll be so very very sorry.

New England has plenty of used bookstores (though more would never hurt!). This is my favorite, though sadly I don't live anywhere near it: http://www.bookbarnniantic.com/. I get to visit once in a while, though...

We still have them here and we do shop there about every other month. Although I do love Thriftbooks.com - it lets me shop at multiple used bookstores all at one time! But really we use the local public library system a lot.

I miss the tangible beauty of book design...holding a book and imaging the treasures inside to be as exciting as the cover...books aren't going away, they're being elevated to an art form!

Go to Hay-on-Wye, in Wales. It's a town whose principal industry is used bookstores. At the moment they have around 30 major stores, and many have resident cats. Some have winding stairs with piles of books everywhere; some have themes, such as horror or mystery, with displays. Some are enormous uncatalogued warehouses full of books- shop till you drop takes on a whole new meaning. The town has a castle, an old coaching inn, craft centers... http://www.hay-on-wye.co.uk/

I don't miss anything about brick and mortar used book stores. We have Half-Priced Bookstore in San Antonio and I go there frequently! I'm sorry for anyone who doesn't have a good half priced bookstore in their town.

Well we went and found Waldo in one this summer. There's still the one on the main road in the next town over, and the other bookstore sometimes has used stuff that they sell to support local authors and stuff....

Powell's Books in downtown Portland, the largest bookstore you'll have the pleasure of walking in to. I think it has something like 70,000 sq feet of space, they have maps at the entrances so you don't get lost.
