Well, how do you fare compared to the Zeitgeist? Chat up your fellow wooters and let us know how lame this poll was or what obvious choices we missed. For example: Was this poll a) STUPID, b) DUMB, c) POINTLESS or d) ALL OF THE ABOVE?

I absolutely HATE, H-A-T-E, touchpads!

How about neither? What about Trackball. Once you get used to using the ball you can't stand anything else!

Trackball. A big, meaty, Missle Command-sized monstrosity that you can slap around.

I use a mouse on my laptop cause sometimes I play games on it, which is impossible with a freakin' touch-pad, unless you're one of those weirdos.

Keyboard, blind mice don't work.

I have both desktops and laptops. On the desktops, I use a mouse. On the laptops, I use the built-in touch pads for convenience. If I want to use the laptop for an extended period of time, I will connect a standard mouse.

Most of the time with my laptop, I use a good travel mouse.

I detest touchpads. I have been using Toshiba or ThinkPad laptops with a pointing stick in the center of the keyboard since the mid-1990s; in places where space is tight, I use the pointing stick on.

Trackball all the way. Why did Microsoft stop making one of the best pieces of hardware made in the past 10 years? Guess that's where Google learned to pull out early and quit;(

I absolutely agree. And it drives everyone else crazy. Just not portable, though.

Not any trackball either! It needs to be a thumb-ball (like Microsoft Optical Trackball or Logitech Trackman Wheel Optical) rather than a finger/palm-ball like Microsoft Trackball Explorer. This makes a huge difference if you use a mouse a lot and are prone to RSI.

I prefer a mouse. But I wouldn't say I'm too cheap to buy a mouse for my laptop. I just don't want to carry another item around and deal with dragging it out, untangling it and plugging it in every time. I don't game with the laptop, so the touchpad is fine for web surfing/word processing.

And trackballs suck.

I prefer the touch pad on my Macbook Pro, but when I'm at work, I use a trackball. Absolutely detest using a mouse.

I live the way I type, FAST, with a lot of mistakes.

I agree that touch pad is awesome, I never use a mouse with mine.

On my laptop, I prefer the touch pad, but here in my office, I like my Logitech (can we get a woot) wave keyboard and mouse.

Add me to the list of those who absolutely abhor touch pads. What the heck ever happened to the little eraser-mouse thingy in the middle of the keyboard?

Touchpad when traveling, because who wants to drag and plug in a mouse when traveling.

Mouse when in the office. touchpads are horrible when trying to work fast on spreadsheets.

I would say I prefer a mouse 80% of the time, but will use a touchpad if that is the only option with little complaints. For example working on a glass table without a pad.

Umm... I use a mouse on my work laptop all day, then I go home and use a Bluetooth keyboard with built in touch pad on home desktop... soo... not sure what i should say here... I never thought of the fact that I don't use my laptops touch pad, but I use an external touch pad on my home desktop.

Thanks for making me wonder about myself Woot!

Mouse. On my laptop I have software disabled my trackpad. Use the IBM/Lenovo nub/clit mouse on my personal laptop, that doesn't have a trackpad. Greatest thing for laptops. I also cary a full sized mouse with my laptop.

Lenovo Trackpoint AKA nipple mouse AKA Centrally Located Input Thingy.

Hell, I even use these for my desktops. Kinda limits my choice of keyboard, though.

Needed an option for both!

I own a PC and iMac, both fully geared and pimped. iMac comes with either a sin against mousedom (magic mouse), or the trackpad. I chose trackpad, and use my rat7 on whichever I'm gaming on.

The trackpad actually works wonders in ML, as Apple's pre-programmed about 20 gestures into it that make working in many programs a breeze.

You can further customize them with 3rd party software, and the trackpad is actually really useful for OS navigation and obviously web browsing.

I would never game with a trackpad beyond Solitaire and iPad-like non-games, but I still own and use one to supplement my traditional mouse use.

Touch pads are EVIL and shold be exorcised by competent priests or software/hardware specialists.

Nothing is free but if you are lucky it can be inexpensive.

Mouse, because of physical limitations. Touch pad and tremors don't mix you ended clicking on things you NEVER EVER intended to.

I have two logitech mice for my two different laptops. a small m305 for my netbook, and an Anywhere MX for my gaming PC. i wouldn't be opposed to a track ball if i could get my hands on a good one, but for now i love my mice. i hate my keyboard though, it hovers over the stupid touchpad and moves my cursor while i'm typing making me type sentences in the middle of the paragraph...
