a light that's a speaker?! would be neat in the bathroom if rated for high humidity environments.

Pretty cool concept ... very curious to hear from anyone that's used one.

it's probably one of the coolest concepts i've seen...though i have to wonder.

why is the thing so large (as shown in the video linked) when there's an obvious lack of a sub? it's not gonna fit in standard wall sconce applications, that's for sure.

I tried to watch the video, but the dude lost me when he suggested someone might replace a light with a speaker otherwise, except they'd be wandering in the dark. Next time, do the clever write-up, instead of linking to a tradeshow video, woot. That's just plain lazy.

At first glance, seemed like the dumbest idea ever. Then I thought it might be nice in a bathroom or hallway, then I looked back at the price and I can see why these ended up on Woot!
MSRP of $400? Seriously?
Try shifting the decimal point one position to the left and we can talk.

Gotta say, this thing looks pretty amazing. But I am pretty concerned about how the speakers will sound when trying to send music out of the little can light fixture in the ceiling. Especially since it would be projecting towards the floor and not throughout the room. Somebody rustle up some reviews.

not to bring up bose at the most inopportune moments...but for this price, you'd expect a bose stamp on the base of the bulb--which would have been colored silver/black/gray or any combination of two of those colors.

LEDs aren't costly, and let's not pretend these are pioneer bookshelf speakers.

Me, too. I was expecting under $50, and I would have gone for it had they been under $20.

(or during the day)

You can leave the light switch on and turn off the light with its remote. Unfortunately, that's one more remote control to lose, break, need batteries for, etc, and it's IR, so line of sight only.
I hope cycling the light switch off and then on overrides the remote and turns the light back on though. If not it's only a matter of time until someone stumbling around in the dark gets rather annoyed.

It says it has a dimmer, i would assume you could turn it all the way down. but assuming doesnt mean anything.

Can I plug these in outside under my porch. It doesn't say whether they are indoor or outdoor.

on an Amazon review, someone had this to say..
"The interference with other devices on the 2.4 gigahertz channel is a real problem. I can't seem to isolate the issue and interference is rendering the system useless. I've adjusted all the wireless items in my house to no avail. I have also adjusted the lights themselves. I am running an airport extreme base station in the house and it pretty much rendered this device useless. This is a big problem. The people who are the market for these lights especially at this price are going to have some serious wireless networks."

Ouch, you'd think they'd have thought of that when designing the product. If not, maybe we can expect to see some cheaper refurbs in the near future, which might work fine for people with 5GHz WiFi.
Perhaps they should have just made them high power bluetooth and saved all the hassle, and perhaps be able to control the lights from your phone, or give them a multicolor disco mode sync'd to music...

Hope this helps.

PS: I removed/edited the questions about how many bulbs come with this sale so they wouldn't be answered 20 time in the next 20 hours.

Every so often, you get something on here that you say 'Wow, I can tell why that showed up on Woot'. Speaker/Light combo? Talk about a niche market, especially at that price!

Just thinking of their target customer. Let's see... likes music (but not die-hard audio-snob), living in a rental (or otherwise can't install ceiling speakers), possibly minimalist living, and with a lot of money to burn...

Sure, it allows you to have an all-in-one unit that lets you slap down wireless audio anywhere in the house, but I find it to be a 'Solution Looking For A Problem', you know?

Oh, and thank Eric who had to drive to the office at 1am to verify this. All I had to do was post the info.

If anyone was wondering, the lumen output listed puts it around the general level of a 40 watt incandescent bulb.

I have these and they sound phenominal. I have 2 lights in my bathroom, 4 in my living room, and 2 in my bedroom. You can run 6 lights per zone and get full stereo sound. This is definately the next stage to in wall in cieling speakers

Woderful idea, and could sell very well if they don't kill it with the price.

This set originally retailed at $400? Are they nuts?

$119.95 and they won't be able to keep them in stock....

I saw/heard these on display/demo at my local Home Depot (not an audio store). And the sound quality was surprisingly good. It was play some pre-recorded classic rock. But the cost, at the time, of $140 per bulb was way out there for me to actually consider. Now though, if this deal was next week, after payday, I would consider getting them.

You're not going to get anything lower than 100Hz out of 70mm speakers, so while perhaps useful for random background music utterly useless in a home theater application.

This looks like an awesome idea! Im sure it will become more popular (and more affordable) in months to come. Right now I wouldn't consider spending $80 a speaker that plugs into your ceiling that just so happens to emit light. Like others have said, this has some bugs that I would hope get worked out soon.

To shed some light on things:

This bulb is just north of the 2700K incandescent, pretty good for an LED. Usually much cooler and harsh.

Although the CRI gets criticism for not being the best indicator of good color rendering, this should at least give you an idea.

CRI of 80 is decent for an LED. You will notice a difference compared to your incandescent lights though.

While someone else ( Jason ) said:
"
Never knew this type of product existed but after finding it and using it, I'm really impressed. The light is bright and can be adjusted to different levels using a remote. The sound is clear and has a good bass to it. The audio can also be lowered/raised using the remote which is convenient. It connects wirelessly direct to my iphone by just plugging an adapter into the bottom of my phone and that's it. I would just take note of the size, which is big, since it might not fit into every bulb socket. Easy to use and sounds great so I highly recommend."
and someone else ( Stuart ) said
"I was skeptical at first about the quality of Music Lites because it just seemed too good to be true..but after connecting them (2 min) I now have amazing sound coming from my LED lights. This is really the coolest thing ever and I would STRONGLY recommend it to anyone who wants to be wowed! "
Me, I've got a wireless n system going and that's all. I'll try them

From the description, it looks like that's where they're designed to be used. "MusicLites fits into four-, five- or six-inch recessed cans"
