Does anyone know how many frames per second it can record in D1 mode?
Hopefully 480.

Can anyone explain TV lines? I know it is not the number of lines, because some camera's have 700TV lines and NTSC only supports 480 lines.

Seems to be a discrepancy on the specs page as to the model of the DVR. At the top of the page it's listed as a zmd dd sbn8 (an 8 channel model) but "in the box" it is listed as a zmd dc sbn6, a model with many more usable features.
The Zmodo website confirms that this is a zmd dc sbn6 model.

So, say you get one of these, how do you get the eight extra cameras?

Anyone know if this DD version has email alert on motion detection, like the DC version does?

I can't seem to find anything useful on the DD, but tons of results on the DC.

Go anywhere that sells surveillance cameras, such as Amazon. I get mine from the local MicroCenter.

Her's quit after a single day of use. I do not know if she was able to get it warranted or not.

I installed mine after about a month of it sitting in a box. All the cameras work to my satisfaction. However, after a few months my wife caught my grill on fire. This grill happens to be in view of one of the cameras set to record any motion. When I went to look at the footage I discovered only the 1st channel camera had any recordings. I checked the settings for all of my cameras and they are all the same.

When I called their 24/7 support I was told I would need to upgrade firmware. To do that I would need to talk to Tech Support. (Tech Support would have to give me a link to the firmware that you can't find on their site.) I called Tech Support.. Tech support only carries 9-5 business hours. That's no problem. I'll just email them. It has been two weeks and I still haven't gotten an email back.

In the email I explained my problem and that I was told by zmodo customer service I just needed new firmware. Would you kindly send me a link. My model # is....

This system is great for live coverage. However, I'm not sure I would really expect it to actually record anything. (Note: It recorded fine the first month.)

I bought similar system with 4 cameras couple months ago. In general, you've better use indoor only, it works fine, it can record 4 channel as mentioned. However, I was unable to see them online. The manual is horrible, hard to understand.

Getting them to work online does take some know how. But there are plenty of online tutorials to get you through that. You need to know how to port forward.

It should also be mentioned the software to record/view on your computer does not work under Windows 8.

This is a pretty good system for the price.

We have something similar (well, exactly the same base unit, only the cameras are black) at work that we use for monitoring R&D projects.

I will say that it is really simple to network, and therefore easy to view from anywhere. I was able to get ours online and viewable within 5 minutes or so using a local static IP address, and able to access it from anywhere in the office. (Could easily view it from home provided I logged in to my computer remotely.) It took a few extra minutes to set it up so that I didn't have to login to my work computer remotely to view it.

The remote interface leaves a little to be desired when you log on, but you'll have no problem viewing all of the cameras and making a few adjustments to how the system is functioning.

Also, you can set up credentials for logging on remotely (password protect) so some person can't just randomly access the system.

As for extra cameras, it's probably worth it to get a couple of different cameras to round out the 16 total channels. I have 4 that can be controlled (up/down left/right) remotely, so I can log in and move them around. Another 2 are dome style, and the other 2 are just bigger, better, more rugged outdoor cameras.

It's a faily simple and straight forward installation. Figuring out where you want the cameras to be is the hard part.

The only downside to installing the system is the length of the cable provided for each camera isn't usually long enough to install all of the cameras where you want them. You'll end up (if you have some wire stipping / crimping / soldering skills) having to buy a reel of cable and some ends and making longer cables. Or just purchasing longer cables.

of those who own this machine, when reviewing recorded video can you see ALL channels at once? or just one at a time?

i have used one where you can do this, my current night owl does not allow me to do this.

just wondering...

I have the 4 cameras system as well, and was able to get the mobile/remote viewing set up. It did take some tenacity and a lot of google searches; the manual wasn't much help. If you're already familiar with setting up Dynamic DNS (I had already done this previously in order to VNC to my machines while away) it shouldn't be too difficult to figure out.

I'm surprised that no one has commented on the included mounts for these cameras (the part that screws into the back of the camera and then into the wall...). I bought one of these camera/recorder packages a few months ago and *NONE* of the camera mounts would hold the camera at all (flopped around freely) and was quite useless. Even after my friend in the machine shop at my company modified them in an attempt to get them work as they were designed, still would barely support the camera at any angle. Don't count on the mounts working if you order this as they look just like the ones I got that don't.

read further on down for more write ups.
but i would recommend not setting up for motion record. just record them all the time. it works fine that way. i can get 2 weeks of straight recording on my 500gb hard drive from 8 cameras, 24hrs a day.
second instead of port forwarding, i just used logmein for smart phones to control your computer from inside your network. this way you don't have to be an einstein in the ip field. bad thing is that you'll have to have a computer at the house on all the time...

At home I have a few years old 8ch Zmodo system. That one you can watch 1 , 4 , or 8 at a time. At work we have a newer 16ch Zmodo system (Much like the one here for sale) and that one has many options for how many you can view. 1, 4, 1 big 5 little, 1 big 7 little, 9 same size, 1 big 9 little, etc..

What is the model of the Hard Drive?

Cheaper than here with no HDD and no cameras. So pretty good deal.

Yes, as long as you have completed the network setup for the DVR. You can even choose to record only when motion is detected. You will likely have to play with the sensitivity settings a bit as you probably don't want it to email you every time a leaf falls off a tree, but certainly when a car pulls in the driveway!

It is not of the best quality. I would suggest everyone doing a little more research before buying.
