bought a refurb here around Christmastime for $350. It's a GREAT TV.

Not alot of online reviews other than the QVC reviews. JVC is a good reliable brand according to consumer reports.

The only 40" LED 1080p, 120 Hz I've found at a better price is a Westinghouse on Amazon.

Despite the Westinghouse's positive reviews on Amazon other than difficulty mounting, consumer reports states Westinghouse as the brand with one of the highest failure rates.

Also Amazon has a Vizio with similar specs and its a smart TV for $499.

Whereas this woot deal isnt a huge price break, this is a very good tv for the cheapest you'll find it new online at this point.

1) 1080P - check
2) 120 Hz - check
3) New - check
4) JVC brand - limited distribution in US, but solid brand
5) Price - decent
6) 2 x HDMI inputs - so-so but likely OK for most folks (DVD player + Cable box or DVR)
7) No Smart functionality - OK as long as your DVD player has it or you don't care (Internet streaming content, etc...)
8) Biggest concern: not seeing its black levels in person. The inability to display really dark scene detail/contrast is a common LCD challenge. Go to a store and look at an expensive LCD TV next to a cheapo -- compare near-black areas of scenes. One will show details and the other will show solid black (bad).

edit: Note that "XinemaSound 3D™" is NOT 3D video... but who cares about current 3D video technology anyway.

The DISPLAY on this TV is LCD. No TV's this size use LED displays.

But the BACKLIGHTING is LED. The backlight is simply the light source behind the LCD panel/display. Fluorescent lamp is the other typical backlight technology but it is quickly disappearing.

Both LED and Fluorescent backlighting can be either "back" lit (easier to make uniformly lit) or "edge" lit (thinner).

LED is not necessarily a good thing. The real world energy consumption difference is not that big of a deal. Other factors have more impact on picture quality.

The only definite advantage of EDGE lit LED is thin displays... but Edge lit LED can make for really bad brightness uniformity across the display.

or this JVC LED? I wonder which one has the better picture and lifespan.

I have a 42" jvc led. Received it as a replacement through insurance i purchased on a tv from target. Live tv (think sports) is amazing. I can't watch sports on any other tv because it is so much better on this one. i do not like playing video games on this tv, and prefer the lcd for video games. The images seem fuzzy while playing games, but this tv is totally worth it to someone who watches sports daily, like i do on it.
